Golf Cart Insurance for Renters?

Rich asked:
I have a house that I am renting to vacation renters for a month. I have a golf cart available for them. I have it insured in my name. However I’d like them to insure it for the month in their name so I don’t have the liability. Any help about golf cart insurance would be greatly appreciated.

You should have your home insured as a rental dwelling. When doing this insurance- speak to the agent and advise of the golf cart. Ask them to put it on the policy- covering it for physical damage & liability when in use by a renter.
That way you have coverage for the golf cart and the liability that goes along with it. Insuring the home as a rental dwelling automatically covers the liability for you as the owner.
It’s absurd to ask a renter to insure your property. They have no insurable interest in it- as they do not own it.
Please also note that if the renters have a homeowners policy of their own for their home- the liability from that quite likely would pay for anything that went on in a rented vacation home.
