Choosing the right type of golf ball for your golf vacation is simple right? They are all the same shape, pretty much all the same color and feel like they all weigh the same - I know I can buy cheap balls and some are real expensive, so is there a difference?

Well yes actually, you see golf balls might all look pretty similar side by side, but they are all made entirely differently dependant on whether they are made for performance or to suit a budget.

When you are purchasing balls you first need to decide what you are buying them for - if you a new to golf or a high handicap player, you will more than likely opt for budget golf balls, because the chances are that you will lose a lot of balls and that can work out real expensive if you buy performance balls at this stage - performance golf balls can cost three or four times as much as the cheaper budget priced balls.

As your game starts to improve and you get more control over where your shots land, you should start to invest in more expensive balls as this can save you a number of shots during each round of golf.

It is all in the dimples!

If you examine closely a budget priced golf ball and a performance ball side by side you will see that the dimples are different on each ball. The shape and number of the dimples on you ball will affect the amount of lift you can generate with your ball, and the distance that you can get the ball to travel.

The shape of the dimple will affect the yardage you get when you hit the golf ball; a standard golf ball typically has round shaped dimples, but a performance ball will more than likely have hexagonal shaped dimples. The hexagonal shape of the dimple means the air flows around the ball more efficiently and means that you can get the ball to travel a greater distance.

The number of dimples on your ball will also affect how it behaves in flight, each ball will have between 250 and 500 dimples depending on the brand and type you buy. Put simply, more dimples allows you to put more backspin on the ball which means your ball will go higher.

There are other factors that affect the performance of a golf ball, such as the color of the ball, the type of cover used in manufacture and the stiffness of the balls core.

To get maximum enjoyment out of your golf vacation you will want to be on top of your game, so don’t let something as simple as the wrong choice of golf ball spoil your fun.

Remember that there is no need to change your mind three times about which club you are going to hit and then take six practice swings each time you address the ball. Although there is room for argument that golf is essentially physical while Mathematics is mental, the discussion should focus on the results of our process of learning to master a very difficult task. The most fascinating result is the way that people react to their experience.

When you are planning your golf school vacation, you should remember that there will be a lot of golf, which can scare people, but luckily, golf is to most peoples liking due to the way the brain works. Too many people have had a bad experience learning math and focus their attitude based on the negative experience. Golf, on the other hand, seems to have developed a holistic approach that allows a person to believe that despite his current failures, the opportunity for success will be just around the corner.

Keep in mind the little known golf fact that several people create their own successes by changing their goal or par to create an atmosphere where they can be successful. I’m going on vacation again this year to Ireland. My cousin who is an asst. pro at The K-Club has arranged for us to play with Padraig Harrington and his caddy. He is friends with Paddy’s caddy and the last time I was there I got to meet him but we didn’t play. What would be a good gift to get him. Also, should I bring something for Padraig and his caddy. A golfer was on vacation in Ireland and while playing he made a hole-in-one. With that, a leprechaun jumps out from the trees and says, “I am the lucky leprechaun of the 13th hole. I’ll grant you any wish.”

The player thought a bit and said, “Could you make me weeny a bit larger?” Well, by the time he got to the 14th tee it was showin’ below his shorts. He continued his game and on the 15th hole it was draggin’ along behind him. By the 18th he could hardly make it to the green.

He went straight to the pro shop and asked the pro how to fix it. He was told that legend has it that you must go back and make another ace and see the leprechaun again.

After purchasing five buckets of balls he made his way back to the 13th and frantically began hitting shot after shot until finally he made the hole-in-one. Again the leprechaun offered any wish. The player asked, “Could ya make my legs a bit longer?”
