What you Can Expect on your Jamaica Golf Vacation

Dottson Bando asked:

With gorgeous weather and spectacular scenery, Jamaica golf is the perfect relaxing activity while on vacation. Although there are only twelve courses to choose from, there is a wide variety to keep you entertained. Each course has its own character and distinctive qualities allowing you to experience something different every time you play.

Despite there being just twelve courses in the country of Jamaica, there is a wide range of experience level. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced golfer, there is a course for every level of player. No doubt about it, you’ll be able to enjoy the links at your experience level.

One of Jamaica’s top golf courses for experienced golfers is The Tryall Club. Tryall is located just an hour west of Montego Bay, which is the perfect location for tourists looking for a challenge. This resort is a collection of upscale homes by North Americans and Europeans, giving it an up-scale feel. A visit to the course can be arranged through hotel concierges although it is a private resort area.

If you are a beginner and are looking to have a good time, the hub of Negril’s all-inclusive resorts is one of the most popular courses. Being a beginner, you can fit right in at Negril Hills Golf Club as most of the golfers are first timers or golfers that go no more than a couple of times a year. And the location gives you a rare and novel experience as you travel up and down the elevated trees to the valley fairways.

Head out to Sandals Golf and Country Club if you’re looking for a little less upscale but equally challenging course as The Tryall Club. In fact, some of the best golf in Jamaica can be found here. Although it was in rough shape just a few years ago, Sandals was recently purchased and has been completely revamped.

If you want to get a taste of history while visiting Jamaica, Manchester Country Club is the Caribbean’s oldest golf course. It’s a wonderful course located in Mandeville on Jamaica’s south coast… and it’s a remarkable golfing experience you wouldn’t want to miss. In addition, it is over 2,000 feet above sea level… and is set in rolling hills and provides gorgeous scenery.

Jamaica golf is a popular activity among tourists and natives. There is something for everyone… although there are only twelve courses. With gorgeous scenery, courses of all degrees of difficulty, and a chance to relax and enjoy your time under the sun, Jamaica golf is an activity you do not want to miss out on while vacationing.

We are planning a weekend trip somewhere not too far from home because we will be traveling with a new baby. Ten year old LOVES waterparks (a must), beaches, mini golf, discovery museums. Some inside and outside activities for weather’s sake.

My family and I are going on vacation to Virginia Beach in early June and I am looking for suggestions for golf courses in the area. I am probably going to go with my brother in law who is a beginner, so that and price will have to factor. Thank you!

Which of these places should I go on a budget vacation? I live in Georgia. Thanks for voting?

Walt A asked:

1. San Diego (flying)
2. Seattle (flying)
3. Las Vegas (flying)
4. Miami (flying or by car)
5. “megalopolis tour” by car - Washington DC, Philly, NYC, Atlantic City, Boston
6. Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati Ohio (by car)
7. Memphis TN & Tunica MS by car
8. Costa Rica

I enjoy golf, spectator sports (particulary baseball), restaurants, bars/nightclubs, playing poker. The trip would be for a week anywhere but the megalopolis tour which would probably require two weeks. There’s no right or wrong answer, your opinion counts.
I would be going by myself.

What do you think of my idea for a future “Big Break”?

Thursday, October 16th, 2008
golf vacation
law138 asked:

“Big Break # / Weekend Warriors”……. contestants would be true amatures (no tour experience of any kind / or teaching pros), with handicaps ranging form maybe 5 to 15 or 10 to 20. They would play for prizes like cash, equipment, golf vacations, etc., etc….. To keep with the Big Break concept….a grand prize could be a round of golf at Augusta with Tiger Woods or a spot playing in the Pro-Am at Pebble Beach.

I would watch it and play in it if I had the chance to. What do ya think? I already sent an e-mail to TGC about the idea.

Golf Vacations In Beautiful Pei

Saturday, October 11th, 2008
golf vacation
Gentle Island asked:

Not only is Prince Edward Island’s landscape a feast for the eyes but there is something for all golf enthusiasts, regardless of skill level. Canada’s smallest province has gained the reputation of being the country’s number one golf vacation spot, not just once, but twice! PEI boasts over 26 courses in total ranging from executive, intermediate and beginner skill levels. The Island has also played host in recent years to a number of professional golfers such as in the 1998 “Skins Game” with Fred Couples, Mark O’Meara, Mike Weir and John Daly. Mike Weir was once again on the Island for the Making the Connection Legends of Golf event in July 2007 where he and golf legend Vijay Singh played The Links at Crowbush Cove in beautiful Lakeside, PEI.

If it is an executive course you seek, there is one on every corner of the island. If you happen to be in the west give Mill River a whirl. As a par 72 course with 14 par 4 and above holes and greens fees at $45- $60, why waste another second? In the north Glasgow Hills is another par 72 designed by Les Furber and is classified as a ‘World Class Signature Golf Course”. If visiting central Prince Edward Island the Glen Afton Golf Club is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. This par 70 course offers the biggest bang for its buck, $26- $33 for a round - an absolute steal. When you finally get out to the eastern side of PEI be sure to pay the red sandstone championship Dundarave golf course a visit. After opening in July of 1999 it was quick to grab the attention of Golf Digest and SCORE golf magazine with both giving it top marks. These courses promise to give you the opportunity to use all of the clubs in your bag

If you love the game but are not ready to play with the pros, why not brush up on one of Prince Edward Island’s many 9 hole golf courses. Not only will it do some good to brush up, these courses are a great way to include the whole family. If your kids have an interest, or someone looking to play a shorter game is along, visiting St. Felix in the West, Forest Hills in the North, Country View in central PEI or Eagles View in the East are all great ways to get out and enjoy the sights PEI has to offer.

If you happen to be feeling ambitious you could try your luck with a double header at the beautiful Brudenell River and adjoining Dundarave. Offering 36 holes this day of golf promises to be quite memorable.

The next time you think about planning a golf vacation, keep Prince Edward Island top of mind!
