Can I wash golf balls in a dishwasher?

Dr. B asked:

My home is on a public golf course, so I get a fair number of balls in my yard. I play about twice a month, more on vacation, and I have never bought balls since moving to the house 10 years ago. I usually just use the ball washers at the course, but I’d like to find a faster method.
